goodie goodie gum drop

I found something cuter than cupcakes. Can it be??? My sis and I were shopping and came upon a fun little accessories preview. The store had a super fun set up of treats for shoppers. Small perfectly delicious cake bites decorated so sweetly on sticks like lollys, fun candy, cookies, pink m&ms and cotton candy in glass containers. The set up was pure Shirley Templeville. LOVED IT! I think I have a cavity.

how does she live?

do you love pink? Betsey does. Betsey Johnson is so much fun and so is her pad. Take a look.

I love the mix of old and modern and the pop of yellow and adorable chaise. BUBBLE YUM!

The goods and The bads of Watchmen

I went to see Watchmen this weekend. Wow. Iwas very excited about this movie. Yes, I was entertained but the violence and gore was way over the top for me. The goods: Many of the scenes were really fantastic and visually cool; Max Headroom (remember from the 80s) played a supportive character and that was fun to try and connect the dots; loved some of the costumes (like the first Silk from the 40s) and well the lack of costume w/Dr. Manhattan; I liked the many layers to the story as it keeps you interested; Dr. Manhattan's monotone calmness was cool; liked 80s setting and outfits/lifestyle; The bads: gross out stuff was sooooo sick - breaking hands, arms, cutting off limbs, hands, shooting people left and right, dogs eatting bad stuff, so much that I had my coat over my head a lot; bad makeup on some of the actors in some scenes like the lead actress had dark circles (why would they let that happen???); way too long - 3 hours (if you include 8 previews); silly love scene that made me think that yes, this film is geared towards comic and treky geeks of all ages; needed more funny moments; and the silly purple tiger w/antlers - what was that? Anyhow, anyone that goes to see this should be ready with a fun go there attitude but bring a coat like I did to put over your head. One last thought. It amazes me that a movie like this is rated R with so much violence including a scene where a woman gets beat up and a pregnant woman gets shot. Too much violence towards women in films and those movies should be NC17 not the sexy ones. The Europeans have it the opposite - violent movies get the stronger rating while the provacative sexy movies get lesser. Love good, killing bad. I bet Mr. Headroom would agree.

Big eyes

I am not happy about this news. Margaret Keane is one of my favorites. Love her paintings and love her story. Got to meet her about 6 years ago and had her sign my poodle and blonde print of my dads. Well, the news is : Kate Hudson is set to play the lovely and talented Margaret Keane in her life story. Kate is cute and all, but sadly the casting agent messed up. This is not a so so romantic comedy story it is a fantastic story about a woman whose husband sold her art as his. I could see Reese or Gwyenth or Naomi Watts. I guess I should be happy that it is not Kathryn Heigel.
I will get over this as I have always wanted to see her story on the big screen. Great, great story.

"Vandelay Industries, Kel Varnsen speaking. May we help you?"

I miss Seinfeld. Don't we all. The perfect ensemble. All absurd and brilliantly written. But, there was one episode I never saw. Until tonight. The one where Elaine dances. You would think I would search for it on You Tube or just rent it. Not sure why but I never looked for it except on late night reruns. I think secretly I hoped not to come across it as it was the one show I had not seen so it was still new. Yesterday, I am updating my Netflix account and think I want to add it to my queue. I find the epsiode number and add it. Again this was yesterday. Now tonight, I am just about to turn in. Have been on line paying bills w/the tv on in the background. I flip through a few channels before I am about to log off and go to bed when what do I come across, the lost episode. And it did not disappoint. so funny. I am a little sad. But ya know I bet there is another one I missed. Or maybe I have a special talent like in Bizzaro world where if I think of an episode it will appear soon. Ok, it is late but I am thinking "can you spaer a square?" Yada yada yada...

now smell this

Some people like perfume. I love it. Yes, I know there are those that wear too much and that is not what I am talking about here. True fragrance admirers are always on the search for their next pick. I fall in love with a new scent about every 1 - 2 years. Right now my favorite is "pure grace" by Philosphy (the brand has like 5 styles of grace - baby, amazing and others). It is soft and sublte like clean clothes or fresh soap, it is very light and feminine. Love this scent so much.

Perfume is all about memories. I have many bottles and just seeing them makes me happy. Chanel No. 5, Shalimar, Fracas, Halston, Love's Baby Soft, Crystalle, L'air de Temps, Blue and my all time favorite The Perfect Veil. It makes me swoon. Each one gives me memories through my life. A quick spritz can take me back to a 7th grade dance, a good friends wedding, my first real job, a romantic night or a reminder of someone I love.
And if you are a child of the 70s you will remember this:
"I can't seem to forget you. Your Wind Song stays on my, Wind Song stays on my, Wind Song stays on my-y mind." Prince Matchabelli baby!

Sesame Street was so flipping cool. So hip. The cool glasses and the crazy one's vest and hair! I loved this as a kid and it is still cool. Cool for parents too. Now I miss the ladybug picnic.

Destination Bryant Park

Mercedes Fashion Week (NYC Fall 09) is here until Feb 20th. 3 days so far. Wish I could be there sitting shoulder to shoulder w/Posh, Rachel Z, Ms. Wintour and the Olsen twins. If you love seeing what the new looks are - visit http://www.style.com/. Vogue's online home. It is a great site. You can check out the designer's looks and even vote on the look of the day.
One fun show that was a mix of many designers was the Barbie show (left photo is from Barbie show). It looked like pure eye candy.
Even w/the nation in tough economic time, the fashion show must go on.
NY Mayor Bloomberg said "The fashion industry is a vital part of our city’s economy, providing more than 175,000 jobs and generating billions of dollars in wages for New Yorkers annually," Bloomberg said. I wonder if the Haute Couture Club will be buying a bit less this year?

farewell my grocery checkout friend

accessories anyone?

I attended an early screening of "Confessions of a Shopaholic" last week. I was looking forward to the costumes/clothes but was a bit scared in the first scene w/Isla Fisher. The outfit was overthe top. Crazy fur top boots, a purple down jacket, too many accessories, hat, colors, bag... eh, eh, eh..But.....It got better with every scene. Fashion trend guru Patricia Fields (she brought us the "carrie" necklace, tutu and everything fabulous from SATC) did not dissapoint and I found the clothes to be brilliantly colorful, quirky, adorable and well, it made me want to go shopping. Woops, I guess I did not get the lesson from the movie.
my favs
- oh, the gloves. Lots of them and in candy colors. Fuscia, blue... so cute.
- anchors away! An oversized sparkly anchor necklace was my favorite item in the whole movie
- purple ruffle dress & the black strapless. Reminds me of formals from college. Classicly 80s
- Patterns, plaids and prints
- Pink but not over the top.
- the best friend was doe eyed and had terrific outfits too. This actress is sort of like Anne Hathaway but better. The meanie in the movie is played by Leslie Bibb and she had killer stilettos. Both of these characters had great hair with precise bangs. Love that.
- Hugh Dancy was fun to watch. British accent, great style, easy on the eyes and sweet.
- The movie went a bit too fast in the first 30 minutes. Plus many side stories...They had a lot to tell so, some areas were not developed and looked corny. But with cute Isla and Hugh Dancy it was still a fun ride. And a def musts see for young girls. Nice message about spending.

be afraid, very afraid...

6 things that are bugging/scaring me right now:
- the women from Rock of Love - their extensions, wierd hair color, bad outfits, skankyness and how they can make out w/the wig wearing Brett Michaels. Ok, I admit it I have watched it. But i am stopping right now. I WANT MY MTV back. Martha, Nina, JJ and other vjs where are you?
- forehead wrinkles - thank goodness for bangs
- the many people that are losing jobs. It has to end soon.
- my gas and electric bill.
- octopuss mom - I am worried.
- the little koala, Sam that was saved in Australia and all the people who were hit by the terrible fires.

are you the rule or the exception?

Another chick flick I saw recently was "He's Just Not That Into You". I had low expectations and was actually pleasantly surprised. Really liked this. Fashion was so so. here is what I liked:
- Scarlet's romantic style. Soft curly long hair. cute dresses and comfy jeans.
- Gigi (Ginnefer Goodwin) - I loved her style. Girlie dresses. Polka dots. Fun colors. Nice mix of retro but w/new. Great bags - big bags and one cool clutch. Her hair was sort of wavy bob but it sometimes looked like a wig. That really threw me.
-Shawl cardigans - lots of the characters wore these. Cozy. And my favorite thing right now at home over pjs or over a light sweater. Creamy colors.
- Jennifer Connelly was a big surprise. Simple outifts but loved her hair. She turned out for me to be the most sensitive of the characters and had a weird softness that I did not expect.
- the guys were ok. Not one of them really made my heart skip. Kevin Connoley - too little boy cute for me; Justin (guy from Apple) is normally so cute but found him not so great and Bradley Cooper did look handsome but was a bit creepy for me. Ben Affleck was the best of the bunch. And since we have not seen him in awhile, he was great. Great hair - super short and he did not overplay this role. Like him now. Guys who worked w/Drew were pretty cute though. Fun gay trio.
- Jennifer A - looked good as usual bu I want to see a new look.
- Drew's look was blahhhhh. Last movie I saw her in was "Music and Lyrics" and wow, I loved those clothes. Not loving the look in this movie - braids pinned on top of head - hippy look. No wonder she went platinum recently. Probably saw the dailies and thought, I better step up the sexy.
- Drew did hit it out of the park w/the music. Run down - The Replacements, Talking Heads, Ting Tings, Keane, Lily Allen, Black Crowe. I am getting soundtrack! http://www.hesjustnotthatintoyoumovie.com/

Ok, looking back I think I am rambling a bit too much. I am new to blogging so I think I need to learn to keep the comments shorter and figure out if this is even worth reading. But this is a test.
"He's Not Into You"is relatable and fun. If you see, let me know what you thought about the fashions.

what or who is gebo?

Gebo is a form of ge-bo-nee which is derived from dwef-fo-nee (rhymes w/stephanie). What the heck does that mean? Well, if I go back in time, to about 1977 or 78, I can hear my big brother brother john, taunting me in a high pitched voice. He would take a name, and change it to a new name that rhymed. Sort of a mimicking baby-talk to tease. He did the same for my sister who was twid-o-wynn, real name, trissa lynn. She is now twid. The names stuck. The teasing and taunting were out of love of course. At least, I'd like ot think so.
